SUNDAY TWO 4-HOUR PRE-CONFERENCE COURSE and MONDAY’S SUPER SESSION

COURSE SUMMARY:
9-1-1 and the Mentall Ill
This class is designed to give Communications Personnel some basic knowledge of the different types of Mental Illness  It provides tools for Tele-communicators to understand and deal compassionately and appropriately with these callers.
BIO:
From 1975-1988 Katie Callan worked in pre-hospital care as an EMT/Paramedic and in Respiratory Therapy from 1987-1992.  Since 1992 she has worked for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Communications Division.  She was a dispatcher from 1992-2000 and promoted to supervisor, and in 2002 Katie became the Training Coordinator.  In 2011 she became the Administrative Supervisor.  She has provided training to telecommunications personnel all over Arizona on many different topics.  This is Katie’s 4th year presenting at the AZ APCO-NENA Conference.

COURSE SUMMARY:
Generational Leadership

Participants will discuss the four major generations currently in the American workforce:
Traditionalists
Baby Boomers
Generation X
Millennials (Gen Y)
 Students will learn the major characteristics of each generation and how to blend them effectively within the organization. This course of instruction explains methods of motivation and communication for each generation.  Comprehending the diverse generational communication styles is paramount for an effective organization.  This class is recommended for all levels within an organization.
BIO:
Sergeant James “Jim” DeLung, M.Ed. is serving with pride as the programs manager for the Center for Leadership Excellence at the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZ POST).As a successful private entrepreneur and public-sector leader, he brings a commitment to the development of effective leadership and inspiration to organizations through an interactive, adult-oriented program of study.

As an "Edutainer," Jim's area of expertise is public speaking and the construction of curriculum for advanced/executive training for thousands of students throughout the U.S.A. and Canada.  His greatest passion is creating an open and honest dialogue for leaders and followers to discuss the contemporary generational issues of America.  Jim can help you effectively obtain sustained, effective behavior through belief of your organizational mission.

Jim is currently in the research development stage for his PhD dissertation in Business Administration with emphasis in Organizational Leadership.  Jim obtained his Master of Educational Leadership and Bachelor of Science degrees from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ.  Jim currently lives in Peoria, AZ with his wife and two children.
TUESDAY SUPER SESSION
COURSE SUMMARY:
Who Is On The Other Side of the TTY?
An opportunity for public safety dispatchers to meet, interact and learn about TTY users from TTY users. Understanding the differences between the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and the hearing community. The Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Community Outreach Program for the Deaf and the Pima Community College Police Department have partnered together to inform the deaf community of the new technologies that are available to them to call 911. Also to understand what is occurring when you call 9-1-1 and an explanation of how 9-1-1 dispatchers are trained and finally to teach public safety dispatchers and first responders about what to expect when interacting with a Deaf person.
BIOS:
Carlos Valencia has been involved public safety communications for over 19 years.  He is currently the Communications Supervisor for the Pima Community College Police Department.  Carlos also has 10 years of field experience as a deputy sheriff.  He is a frequent presenter of training at APCO and NENA conferences on the state and national levels.
Donna Martin, M.ED. has a 30 year background of experience in various Human and Educational services. Currently she is a Program Coordinator in Client Services at Community Outreach Program for the Deaf in Tucson, AZ. Donna has recently taken an interest in educating Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind people about protocol on calling 911/First Responders and co-sponsored three 911 seminars in March 2012 with PCC Police Department, Hamilton Relay Services and Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, in Tucson.
